Our Philosophy and Mission

Dance is an elegant and powerful art form.  Its beauty and strength have inspired and entertained for generations.  At The Dance Studio, we want to endow our students with a love for dance that will last a lifetime and enrich their lives by instilling in them the values of perseverance, self-esteem, discipline, responsibility, respect, cooperation, and passion.  To achieve these goals, we are dedicated to providing an encouraging and supportive environment where our students can experience the joy of dance and the fulfillment of self-expression.  Emphasizing technique, skill development, and style, we believe dance should be a personally rewarding experience for each and every dancer.  Ultimately, our commitment to our dancers is to impart principles and ideals which they can follow for the rest of their lives.

The Dance Studio’s 5 Pointes:  Our Commitment to You

1) Small Classes~~Serious Instructors
Small classes mean more dance space and, more importantly, individual attention.  It is crucial that all dancers receive the attention they need to master their lessons, which is necessary for progression and excellence.  For this reason, we limit the number of students in each class.  In addition, all of the instructors at The Dance Studio are dedicated to each student’s improvement and to supporting them individually in reaching their goals. By limiting our class sizes, our instructors are able to devote the energy and attention required to assist our students in achieving their full potential.

2) A Beautiful Sprung Floor
After the renovations are completed, we will have a beautiful sprung floor.  The first time our dancers walk across it, they will be able to feel the slight bounce under their feet.  Because dance is a physical activity requiring jumping and, more importantly, landing, it puts stress on joints and bones.  A sprung floor rests on a system of high density foam that in turn absorbs the shock through the feet.  A sprung floor is essential to dance and illustrates our commitment to providing our students with the very best facility to ensure their health and physical well-being.    

3) Open Viewing Window
We have a large viewing window through which parents may watch their dancers in class at any time.  Located in the wall between the lobby and the studio, it provides a way for parents to enjoy their dancers’ progress.  Although some dance schools limit the time parents can watch classes, at The Dance Studio, we believe parents can and should know exactly what is happening with their dancers at all times.  

4) No Contracts~~No Hidden Fees
At The Dance Studio, students enroll and pay for a semester at a time.  For that reason, we do not ask our patrons to sign contracts with us.  When a semester is nearing an end, we will simply ask you if you would like to re-enroll.  Semesters begin in June, August, and January.  We will have payment plans for the fall and spring semesters.

5) Placement and Progression
As a general rule, at The Dance Studio, dancers at the age of 7 are placed in class according to ability first, age second.  However, it is often inappropriate to place students on the young end of the scale (7-9) with students nearing the adult end (15+) of the scale.  For this reason, we may offer the same class for different age groups at different times.  It is our general policy not to mix age groups which are vastly different. 
Advancement through dance levels differs with each student and depends on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, physical development, attitude, attendance, practice outside of class, and the number of classes studied each week. Students are evaluated throughout the year and promotions are made according to progress – usually at the beginning of each school year.  Advancement is always based upon the comprehension of the techniques learned and ability to perform the techniques.
